Unusual and Scarce American Pewter Flower Handle Taster Porringer, early 19th c.

This porringer type, known by experts as a truncated flower handle, is very scarce and none are known marked. The handle type is known as truncated since it is missing the 3rd level apertures below the center shield seen in typical flower handle porringers. This porringer style is also missing a middle hanging hole.

The handle bracket style is similar to known Rhode Island porringer makers, so possibly this form originated there.

The bossed basin measures 2-3/8" diameter and the handle is burnt on with a faint linen mark. In excellent condition.
