The first of the seven sons of Thomas Danforth II, Thomas III was born in 1756 and apprenticed under his father until 1777. Busy in Connecticut, Thomas III learned of opportunities in Philadelphia, likely from Blakslee Barns, and opened a Philadelphia shop around 1806, while maintaining a shop in Wethersfield CT. Thomas early used his older family marks, but eventually created his own touch marks. This basin has the left facing eagle (J-118). This basin was most likely manufactured for the Philadelphia market and has strong similarities to the Blakslee Barns eagle ( J-15).
There are very modest signs of wear, and a few surface blemishes. Turnings are quite evident. In near mint condition with a very strong touch mark.
