An excellent example of a Providence Rhode Island flower handled porringer by Samuel E. Hamlin, who took over pewtering after his father, Samuel Hamlin, passed in 1801. Known to have only been used by Samuel E. Hamlin, the porringer is marked with the Providence eagle J-163.
The bossed bowl measures 5-1/4" diameter and is in fine condition, near mint. Exhibiting little wear, lathe turnings inside and outside are quite evident. Signaling the quality manufacturing that Samuel Jr. produced, there are signs of planishing on the handle reverse.
