Despite the NY touch mark, most of the pewter was made in Hartford Connecticut by Thomas Danforth Boardman and
his brother Sherman. The Boardman group made pieces that emulated the best of 18th century designs. Although
likely used at home, these plates also work well with Boardman flagons and other ecclesiastical ware.
The plates are both double struck with the Boardman & Co. New York eagle touch marks. The Boardman family made
a range of eight inch size plates and this pair is from one of the largest eight-inch range molds.
In excellent overall condition, there is only a little wear on the upper surface. The wear is relatively greater on the
bottom. The plates have been together a long time.
