Rare Pedestal Base American Painted Tin Matchsafe, c. 1840

An excellent condition and rare American painted tinware hanging matchsafe or match holder from Pennsylvania c.
1830-1845.  

Matchsafes, given their useful function, did not often survive in good condition.  This rare lidded pedestal base red
painted matchsafe has excellent surviving paint. The decoration is in wonderful condition. With divided open and
lidded compartments, the hinged cover shows no breaks and is in working order.

The matchsafe measures approximately 5" tall, with a 3" diameter base..
